Selected / Sculpture Garden

Our clients asked for a garden for their outdoor sculptures, many cultivars of roses and a small vegetable garden. They also wanted a smaller deck and better access to their garden from the house.  We started by prioritizing views of the existing landscape, studying how to maximize their usable space and the origin stories of their outdoor sculptures. Two of the sculptures were permanently places and we placed the rest within the garden.

This large urban corner lot now has three, distinct areas with differing uses. Vegetables are grown in the back, one side is for sitting and viewing two three sculptures and the other for dining and entertaining. We designed Corten raised planters for vegetables and roses in the back. On one side we designed a custom, concrete fire pit and areas for lounging and dining. On the other, we selected 2 Fermob Louisiane benches, one for each end which create ‘rooms’ surrounded by perennials. In the center, we designed a hornbeam room with a passageway through the center, where we placed a sculpture amongst grasses. These three distinct areas feel entirely different from one another while being connected through the plant palette and sculptures.

The plant palette includes many Roses, Baptisia, Salvia, Trachelospermum, Molinia, Epimedium, Helleborus, Ferns, Fuchsia, Daphne and Edgeworthia.
